I was a student in London so can suggest some fun cheap eats. You won't get any luxury but it should be interesting:

- Firstly -The Ivy House Pub. This pub is very near Holborn tube station. It has a really delicious and cheap thai restaurant above it. Dine and drink in one place!

-The Stockpot - these are bistro places in 'theatreland' & Soho - no frills but good cheap food and you see lots of actor types.

- Just mosey on down to chinatown where there are lots and lots of 'as much as you can eat' chinese buffets. Loads of atmosphere and plenty of grub!

- If you want the security of a chain, Pizza Express and Spaghetti House have branches all over London and are cheap, plus you can book big groups. I've had a celebration in a spaghettihouse. It was great!

I think that you would be lucky to get a main course for one with that budget, last restaraunt or excuse of one set me back a whopping £139 for 2 with a cheap bottle of wine.
