Question:

Is there a non alcoholic version of ouzo?

I dont drink but have tried Ouzo, i dont want to start drinking but really just want the taste of it, is there a non alcoholic version or something that tastes the same?

(mock me all you like for not drinking, least im not weak :p)

  1. You could try making an aniseed syrup which you can then dilute with (fizzy) water. That should give you a very similar taste to ouzo. Try this recipe for ginger syrup but substitute the ginger for a couple of tsp of aniseed.

    Makes about 4 cups

        * 4 cups sugar

        * 2 cups fresh ginger, cut into 1/8-inch slices (about 2 large hands)

        * 2 cups water

    In a medium saucepan over high heat, combine sugar, ginger, and water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until syrupy and reduced by half, about 40 to 45 minutes. Strain ginger pieces out and reserve syrup.

    NB - This will work with other spices such as cinnamon, lemon grass etc

    UPDATE - I tried making this and the results were pretty good although it's a little on the sweet side so perhaps less sugar or use less in your final drink. Also I added a couple of star anise to add a different flavour.
