Is there a noteworthy organization that can grade the "Green" quality of a specific product?

  1. Energy Star is one. They set ground rules for compliance for certain electronic and many large energy-consuming items and give them a seal of approval. Compliance is voluntary, its just nice to see the "energy star compliant" sticker on stuff you buy because it helps to ease the guilt that tree huggers have put on us for the last 20 years for things that we have no control over, like the world coming out of an ice age and all. Oh yeah, that's called "Global Warming".


  2. there are tons, for largley used products or global trends such as oil usage, cars, etc visit the UN website and look for the United Nation Environmental Programme (UNEP) for more specific cases, try to find an non governmental organization (NGO) that focuses on the specific product or groups of products.  The manufacturer may also provide some info but that can be biased because no one would make money if they openly said their products harm the environment.  Greenpeace also has a lot of similar information. hope this helps
