  1. No - don't do it unless your husband is set on it.  If God is still working on him (in His school of training exercises for husbands) his wanting to be sustainable or save money may cause a rift in this decision; nevertheless, if he is set on it, buy a large plastic food cutting surface.  Here is the problem...these counter tops are meant for food preparation.  Any paint you use will only last for a while before it becomes tattered.  This may create a surface that breeds bacteria.  Hey, counter tops at your builder center are not that pricey - you can have them made to fit exactly and if you have water shut off valves the plumbing should not be too much of a problem fitting faucets back into place.

  2. Is there a paint, yes.   Will you be happy with the results, no.

  3. There is, and you can probably find reference to it on one of Debbie Travis' websites, but I wouldn't recommend it. Countertops just receive too much use for any paint /coating to hold up very long. One DIY project that you can do if you're fairly handy is tile. You can put concrete backer board right on top of the old coutertops and tile over it. The only kinda tough part for a novice is uninstalling and reinstalling the sink/garbage disposal, faucet.

  4. Just me you can paint your counter top but I don't think you will be satisfied with it.  The paint will never be as hard as the laminate.  Start by cleaning, and sand with 120 grit sand paper,  apply good primer and let cure out approximately 48 hours, then paint with acrylic paint, and last apply polyurethane as top coat.  It will be just about as easy to apply  ceramic tile to your counter top, or Granite tile which cost about $4.00 sq. ft.. Home depot has a black high gloss 4 X 6  inch Ceramic tile that is cheap and looks good.  I don't have picture of kitchen counter top but I do have bath counter top.

Check Web Link below Email for additional details. you can do it.

  5. My husband just said yes, but it looks like c**p.  There's one for fridges but it just never looks right.  Buy big or stay home.

  6. there is a paint that will recolor counter tops but unfortunately, it is a two part epoxy based resin paint that requires a contractor. Or you will have to rent a spray rig and learn a lot of unneeded information for a one time project. Might be cheaper just to replace the counter top. Look around, sometimes you can find odd lengths that are left over, or someone might be doing a remodel

  7. Paint it with a very expensive semi gloss, let it dry for a few days, then start using cutting boards on the surface.  If you live alone or just with another grownup, you can preserve the top by being extremely careful.....not to use it.  I have a rental property that the tennants glued shelf paper to the counters.  That was the worst idea I have ever seen.  You really shouldnt paint the top at all, but I can see why you would want to.
