Question:

Is there a particular message when a gerbil does this?

We've recently bought two gerbils and loving them! Super pets! I was just watching one through the glass and it came up and sat in front of me on its hind legs then swished its tail side to side, rested then did the same before going back to its burrowing. I know foot thumping has it's meaning - is there any behind 'tail swishing'?! Thanks!

  1. Maybe it's a balance thing?

  2. Tail swishing is a normal thing that gerbils do. I remember reading about gerbils once because I REALLY  wanted 2. They do that as a form of balance since they usually stand on their hind legs.

    Hope this helps!

  3. I used to keep gerbils, I dont realy know why they do thease things but I found that they were genrally very inquisitive and would often stand on there hind legs to listen and watch what was going on around the room. I think that they are quite intelligent. I also started off with two gerbils and ended up with hundreds! good luck
