  1. I think golf is most popular in areas with permitting weather, like Florida, California and Texas.  Generally in the south as golf pretty much can be played year round, thus there's plenty of golf courses.  I hear Florida per capita has the largest number of golf courses, there's large number of retirees there which has plenty of time to play.

  2. While there are not parts of the country that are more popular, so to speak, there are cities where golf is the most popular.

    Palm Springs, Ca

    Phoenix/Flagstaff

    Orlando, Fl

    Myrtle Beach, NC

But I certainly wouldn't move to one of these cities just for the golf. Also, golf is usually the cheapest in the places where you would least expect it

    Most of Texas

    Boise, Id

Oklahoma City (basically in cities where there are no growth boundaries)

  3. I think you're confusing popularity with opportunity.. Golf is popular throughout the US however the opportunity to play golf is greater in the states than have a milder climate than those that don't. As an example, you have greater opportunity to play more golf in Florida as opposed to Alaska.

  4. North Carolina. There are golf courses every were, because the weather is perfect for golfing. But seriously, there are courses everywere.

  5. If you base it on number of courses, it's Michigan, with more than 850 public courses, not to mention the private ones. That's the most public courses per capita of any state in the union.

  6. there is no particular part of the country where golf is more popular than another. The biggest difference is the length of the season. Those who live where it does not freeze or snow have longer seasons than one finds up north. Those who live in the southern part of the US haveyear -round golf which is often hampered with very hot , humid weather in the summer months.

  7. No, but where the weather is nice year round it woul dbe advantageous to a golf player.
