  1. go back to the garage for a check if all is well then there is a lubricant spray you can apply to stop the squeaking noise, but get it checked first

  2. I'd worry - cam belts never, ever squeak unless there's something wrong.

Are you sure you don't have a squeaky water pump?

  3. It may not be the cam belt - if you have had a new one fitted - the other belts will have been removed and replaced/refitted - this may have led them to be tightened more than normal - just spray the belts you can see with a little WD40 to see if it stops the squeak.

Also, new belts can sometimes squeak (not often) due to condensation build up - this sometimes happens with new belts and stops after the initial couple of drives in the car.

BUT - if all above fails - then get your cam belt checked to make sure - it may be the tensioner squeaking/squealing - these should be replaced along with the belt if there is any doubt about it's integrity.

  4. id say its fan belt rather than cam belt

    probably needs tightening

  5. It wont be the cam belt. The alternator drive belt ( fan belt) is the more likely culprit. You do not state your car make/model. IF that belt has been fitted incorrectly it will make a h**l of a noise, try a visual inspection to make sure it sits properly in all pulleys and is not overlapping one.

  6. u have a problem...they arnt ment to squeek...

DO NOT spay anything on the cam belt,it can cause it to fail...take back to the garage who did the work and ask them to check it over...SOON AS POSS.....

  7. Hi, yes it wont be a cam belt. The cam belt needs to stay in the same position so that the engine 'times' properly.

The noise you hear is most likely the alternator belt, easily sorted out, a new one should not slip, but what has happened is this new one has 'worn in' or bedded in slightly, or stretched slightly, or it was cold when it was fitted and expands when it is warm or softer. So try putting a bit more tension on it. Loosten the bolt slightly, give it a tap with a wooden block and then pinch the bolt back up.

This is fairly easy to do. Could be water pump, it may be the same belt.

This is not a major problem, you could try spraying WD40 onto the wheels which the belt runs around.

Watch you don't get your fingers caught up in there!

Car could overheat or battery might not charge too well if left alone.
