  1. I found another person!

Clara Hughes. She is a silver medalist in Olympic Cycling and also has several winter olympic medals for Speed Skating.

  2. Technically, many track and field stars have won medals in two different events, such as sprinting and long jump (Carl Lewis and Jesse Owens to name two) but they are both in track and field and it is not uncommon for an athlete to compete in two or more events there.

In the 1920's, Paul Radmilovic  won medals in swimming and water polo but they are both kind of related. Not really, though.

I don't think anyone has ever medaled in two totally different kinds of sports before, but a British girl , Rebecca Romero, won a silver in 2004 in rowing and is now competing in cycling and is thought to have a chance to win a medal.

  3. Not only yes, but there are 4 that have won BOTH Summer AND Winter Olympic medals!

Eddie Eagan, USA–Light Heavyweight Boxing gold (1920) and Four-man Bobsled gold (1932).

Jacob Tullin Thams, Norway–Ski Jumping gold (1924) and 8-meter Yachting silver (1936).

Christa Luding-Rothenburger, East Germany–Speed Skating gold at 500 meters (1984) and 1,000m (1988), silver at 500m (1988) and bronze at 500m (1992) and Match Sprint Cycling silver (1988). Luding-Rothenburger is the only athlete to ever win medals in both Winter and Summer Games in the same year.

Clara Hughes, Canada—Individual Road Race Cycling bronze and Individual Time Trial Cycling bronze (1996) and 5,000 m Speed Skating bronze (2002).

  4. i'm doing some quick research here....

Johnny Weismuller wins 3 gold (swimming) and 1 bronze (water polo). May be only athlete ever to win medals in two sports in the same Olympics. Later played Tarzan in movies. (1924 olympics in paris)

I didn't take too much time, so there may be others

His name is misspelled there, it's

    Johnny Weissmuller (June 2, 1904 – January 20, 1984)

    and he swam for America

it looks like a few others have done it and are looking to do it too....

Only one other Briton has achieved the feat of winning medals in two sports and that was in the 1920s.

Paul Radmilovic won medals in swimming and water polo, two sports which are arguably more closely related than cycling and rowing.

Currently a Briton woman by the name of Rebecca Romero won a silver medal in rowing in 2004 and is now back in Beijing looking to win the 3000m cycling race and she is favored to win gold
