I mean calling people names like sweetie, and love and honey - when you don't even know them. Not animal names.

  1. If this is in a business/office situation, never call any one a "pet name" - if you are allowed to address them by their first name, then fine.

But if you want to be taken seriously you must always address them by their name and leave the little terms of endearment out.

If this is for someone you know really well, socially, then, it is different - provided they do not take offense.

  2. How about a pet named etiquette?

Seriously, not really.  Just use common sense--while naming your dog a four letter word may seem funny at the time, it rarely ends well.

Oops, sorry!  I've never liked the use of pet names with someone you don't know well.

  3. You probably shouldn't name your pet after a human person that you know. They might be insulted. :)

  4. It took me a minute to realize what you were asking, lol.  Anyway, I've always thought it was a little rude to call someone honey or sweetie if you didn't really know them, it's too "familiar" and it can appear to be condescending to some people.

  5. I like to use darling.  could you hand me that, darling. It has always worked for me.

  6. yes, name you pet after your mother in law if she is a lkjsalkj

  7. It's not unnecessarily rude to call someone random "sweetie" or "hon".  Though it may make some people somewhat uncomfortable, it's meant to be a nice gesture and not offensive.
