Question:

Is there a phone or caller ID that will block numbers?

We are very rural and our phone company says it can only block up to 10 numbers. We get an average of 3 calls a day from solicitors, etc. I recently overheard someone say, "Thank goodness my caller ID can block numbers." I can't seem to find a caller ID or phone that can do this. Thanks for any help you can give me!

  1. I am in the UK and had the same problem. I checked with BT and they offered the package of blocking 10 numbers for something like £10 a quarter. It was of no use to me as you would need to know all the numbers beforehand, and like you, they were just random numbers from telesales staff so I didn't know them and there were more than 10.

I looked in to it further and found that if you register with the Telephone Preference Service, which is free, after a couple of weeks, the majority of the calls stop. The Telephone Preference Service distribute your number and advise the companies that there is no point in contacting you as you wont be buying from them. You do still get the odd one or two, but if you want you can report them to the Telephone Preference Service.

After doing that, I bought a caller ID unit. It was free to register for the service with BT. Now if anyone phones me and they withhold their number or I do not recognise the number, I don't answer. If a salesman tries a few times and keeps getting no answer, he will give up.

  2. privacy manager

  3. The solution I use is the Panasonic DECT 6.0 cordless phone model KX-TG9333.

This phone can be programmed to Call Block specific phone numbers that you don't want to be bothered by. Block up to 20 separate numbers.

It also has a Night Mode that prevents the phone from ringing during late night hours. Just program in the times you don't want to be disturbed while sleeping.

I think it is great that phone manufacturers are building these features into phones. Now we don't have to pay the phone company more money just to block annoying phone callers.

  4. from what i know there is no phone that can block numbers. your best bet is to make sure your phone # isn't in the phonebook, make sure no one in the house use's your # while on the computer (i know tons of websites and pop ups that ask for that information), and when they call most if not all solicitors will give you an option to take you off there calling list

You can buy a Call Manager' from http://www.privacycorps.com  that will block lots of numbers, or blocks of numbers, or area codes, specific numbers, and your phone will never even ring if they call. It works fine, there has been NOTHING I cannot block.!! (There is no monthly charge. You DO have to have the Caller ID feature to use it..)

  9. you have to pay for the numbers to get blocked. get call id, and just dont answer solicitors.

ive never heard a company say they can only block up to 10 numbers.

you can also try scaring them by saying you'll call the police if they keep calling (its harassment)
