  1. TONS! Astronomy is full of math. I would say 80% of it is math. Plust there is engineering and aerospace too. Plus you could work for NASA.

  2. I read somewhere that Einstein was a great Physicist, but he relied on mathematicians as assistants to work out proofs and theorems.  Not that he wasn't capable of doing the math, but he was probably swamped in theory.

Here's an interesting project:  We need to install Superconducting Rings into 160+ moons in our solar system to shield out cosmic rays.  Mathematicians and Physicists will have to figure out the strength of the rings, the correct amperage, the current, etc. otherwise the superconducting ring will be quenched.  New superconducting materials such as Iron doped with Arsenic show promise at higher temperatures.  Go for the Nobel prize!

  3. Absolutely!!!  Everything associated with space is connected to math.  If it were not for math, there would be no such thing as the space shuttle, space travel, etc...  Thanks to math we are able to calculate everything from velocities, trajectories, re-entry, gravity, friction to radio waves, and etc...  So having a strong grasp/understanding of mathematics is extremely useful to the scientific community.

  4. ABSOLUTELY  !!

mathematics is the true language of the universe , used everywhere !

  5. You could count how long it takes for your head to explode from pressure when you remove your space helmet.

    Count fast!

  6. Nearly every occupation in space science requires a skill in math. Even the intergalactic janitor of the future will have lots of calculations on his/her desk. Good for you to engage math---not enough people do anymore. I have seen so many high school students steer clear of math if they can---even bright students. Doubling up on the humanities, civics, drama , arts blah blah blah...whatever is easier they say!  Sometimes it surprises me that we ever got off the ground!

  7. There is no advantage in sending a mathematician into space simply to do math. When an astronaut runs into a sticky math problem, all he has to do is phone home.

Anyway, professional mathematicians don't just do math; they invent new kinds of math and program it into a computer; then the astronauts can punch a few numbers on their keyboard and get the answer. The types of problems tackled by professional mathematicians can take longer to solve than a trip to Mars and back.

  8. of course the theory of Ainstaine was build on maths also all computer systems depend on maths

  9. Most certainly so!!!  Where would modern science and space exploration be were it not for mathematics? Answer -- nowhere.

    Go for it!!!

  10. Yes, on Pluto.
