well majority of the cost is the lawyers.  But they do make the process bearable.  The copious amounts of paper work, and court filings and petitions that need to be done and the constant work that goes into the process can be daunting.  But it can be done.  You need to contact an adoption agency and ask for information about how to start the process and how to do the paperwork yourself.  It is absolutely ridiculous how much the fees are to go through the process of adoption.  Its almost as if the state and the lawyers would rather the kids stay in the system, and never be adopted, god forbid someone didnt make there blood money off a poor unfortunate child. Its distubing that there is a profit, to place a kid in a home that wants them when they have noone.  It is rediculously cheaper to adopt outside of the US, thats why so many people choose to do so, but I dont know how you feel about outside the country adoptions.
