  1. just find some things you like and search for them on sites like newegg.com or amazon.com. just read those reviews. and as for the site itself, just buy from someone trustworthy like amazon or something.

  2. Try your local library. Their July '08 issue tested cameras, or just spring for a few bucks on your newstand for that issue.

  3. http://www.dpreview.com/

Hi Katie,  Above is a greats site that is absolutely free.   There you will find reviews by professional photographers who field test the cameras and give  honest evaluations about the special features and other specs of interest to consumers.    As far as consumer reports and because digital camera models go out of date faster than a loaf of bread...  the reports you would be reading would be for yesterdays models and not those just on the shelf today.  Check out DPReview and type in the camera you are interested in...  or several that might be a consideration...  you can compare and contrast with the great infomation given.   Hope that helps.

  4. I don't know of any sites exactly like CR but they DO NOT have a great track record in evaluating cameras anyway.  They have tried a couple of times to update their methodology but the Camera market is VERY dynamic and by the time they get their test results and evaluations published the results are often outdated.

I use Steve's Digicams (see link below, to their reviews page) because there are evaluations of a wide range of products, fairly objective analysis and very up to date information.  Each camera review includes a section called Steve's Conclusion which gives a quick overview of the whole review and usually has pros & cons of the product.

They are sponsored by photo retailers but not by camera manufacturers so there does not seem to be a bias for particular brands or models.

    HTH  Good luck.

Please email me if you have specific questions about a particular camera or features.
