Is there a place that sells parakeet harness

i want to let my parakeet to play freely outside in my backyard but im afraid that they might fly away n can't find there way home so i want to noe is there a place that sells parakeet harness, like petsmart or petco, that i won't need to order off the internet.

-n also how much it would cost

  1. Pet stores do sell parakeet harness.  Or you can make one from a piece of yarn, lanyard, or string; form a lasso, then pass the end through the small loop again, so you have a figure 8.  Put the first loop over the head, and the second around the body under the wings; so when you pull on it, it tightens around the chest, not around the neck.  Not too tight of course.

    But in my experience, birds don't like this.  They hate having it put on. If you can convince your parakeet not to be upset when you put it on, okay.

    Still, I think it would be better to clip your bird's wing feathers so it can't fly.  You can have them clipped at a pet store, or do it yourself.  Once you have them clipped by somebody who knows how, you may be able to keep them clipped yourself as the feathers grow back.

    Of course if you take your bird outside, you should watch it at all times.  You never know when a cat or other predator might come along.
