I've heard the term 'talk back' and I've found a live ATC Audio feed, but don't understand what they mean. It's research for a story I'm working on, and I don't know any pilots who could explain it for me.

  1. if this is something really important I will suggest you to contact a nearby airforce base with ATC services  some of this bases do scheduled tours for students and people with interests in learning military technology, not only you could see how hard this guys work but also you could actually talk personally with these controllers and ask them anything you want, I'm sure you'll find usefull information for your research.

  2. you can go to a class to learn how to become one of those or learn how to fly.

  3. its actually very easy to understand, they just talk fast. if you want to know more about it, just send me an IM.

  4. YES! You can read about pilot/controller terminology in an AIM, (AIrman's Information Manual). There is a large amount of information on that manual and you can read it online at:

    http://www.faa.gov/ATPubs/AIM/AIM_Basic_...

    Hope this helps.
