Just call into some stores like Subway (they have chip boxes), Maytag (they generally have lots of sizes)....I don't really know what kind of stores you have in LA, I'm from Illinois, but I would just call around and ask when they get they're next inventory shipment in and if they would be willing to save the boxes for you.  That's what we've always done.  (If you have a Subway, we've always had luck with them)

try craigslist.com, look under free stuff.

otherwise go to a retailer and ask them to give u some boxes, as they spend thousands to dispose/recycle them monthly.

I have often seen moving boxes being given away. You have to join up, but it is 100% free.
