  1. There are several mixed martial arts places around.  See if you have any near you.  My brother who is now 30 just started it 2 yrs ago & loves it.

  2. To learn all of the world's martial arts you'd have to live for a VERY long time. No one place can will teach you all forms of martial arts. Just take as many as you can and when you're done take some more.

  3. I take your question in a different way. By place, I am assuming you mean a state in the US?

California or NY state are good places. San Antonio, here in Texas, not so good. I wish there were a greater selection

  4. yeh...its called Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

  5. Find an mma gym.

    fightfind.com

  6. I love how people jump to the assumption of MMA. It frankly makes me want to drill a hole through my temple and dig out my forebrain with a rusty spoon.

There are many academies that offer things like a club membership in which a person can attend any class offered at the school. Usually, it's a basic variety: karate/kenpo, kung fu, and tae kwon do; or otherwise similar lineup. Many schools have a much better selection and great instructors. It's all dependent upon what is available and what the market of an area will support.

Unfortunately, the US doesn't take as active an interest in martial arts as places like Japan. In Ayase, the Budokan is like a huge community center in which various classes are taught at one location, and you simply pay the individual instructors to join their class (if it's open to your level or age group). Sometimes local community centers will have a similar thing going on, but the facilities are usually a portion of a basketball court with a few mats thrown down.

  7. There are too many martial arts to even think of doing them all in a lifetime.

Pick one and get good at that.  Then you can train in others once you have a solid base.

Unless you just want to do the MMA sport stuff, then go to an MMA school.

  8. Go to Tibet and dedicate your life to the Shaolin sect or group that promotes this discipline and there you will find peace, inner stillness, and dedication. In your spare time you will learn the secret of "Covering all the bases"

  9. A good MMA school will give you a good start on ground and stand up fighting. These schools tend to focus on sport rather than defence.

With so many options available I would recommend Jeet Kune Do or Bujinkan Ninjutsu. Either should teach you self defence at all ranges (long, medium and short) as well as covering both ground and stand up conditions.

My best recommendation is try a couple schools in your area and pick your favourite based on your level of interest in the style. Train the one style for a while and then consider moving on after you have become profficient.

Remember the saying "Jack of all Trades, Master of None" applies inversely to martial arts. Staying in one style is great but can cause a very rigid sense of what a "fight" should be like.
