Is there a place where you can set up an account for people to donate money too?

My friend and I are trying to set up a fund account for some friends, so we can all chip in and donate to help pay for my friends rent. But we all live in different states. How would we go about making a thing to donate money?

I saw something online before.

Would pay pal work?
