Is there a place you can try beekeeping for a day in or around New York?

Do a search for 'apiaries' (the technical term for bee hives). I doubt you'll find any in the city, but you should be able to find some close out in the countryside. Call around and ask if you can come work for the for free one day, let them know your interested in the profession. There worst somebody can tell you is 'No'.

look in the yellow pages for bee keeping supplies contact them tell them what you want to do and they could hook you up with a beekeeper
