Question:

Is there a plumber in the house? Or a water specialist?

So in one of our bath tubs, the water is coming out green. It's a transparent green that almost looks like a weird lighting or shadow on the water, unless you wait about 15 minutes to a half hour, when the water clears up and you realize that it really was a little green in the first place.

We have a second bathroom with a tub, so this isn't an immediate concern -- But I'm not sure if I should call a plumber or a water-specialist (if there is such a person), or if this is a problem I can fix myself.

I noticed that some baby shampoo we used in the past -- an open bottle of Burt's Bee's Baby Bubble Bath -- has turned a murky green while in the same bathroom. Could it be something in the ingredients? Something in the air? It's an old bottle/soap that we haven't used in over a month because we started using a different brand of bubble bath for the kids, but the water is still that transparent green in that bathtub. I'd like to know if there's cause for concern about the family's health?

  1. If your tub has a lever-operated stopper, that plugs in the drain, there may have been some residual soap or bubble bath in the drain.   This may have mixed a little with the water when you first filled the tub.

I bet it will go away after using the tub without that green bubble bath for a while.

  2. I've seen this before because of the amount of chlorine in the water.  It's probably the same in the other tub.
