Question:

Is there a point in complaining to a warehouse chain about them selling toy weapons to little kids?

I wrote some complaint letters to huge warehouse chains and supermarkets, but I didn't get any response whatsoever. It's disgusting to see that those toy guns or other weapons or war toys are sold to little children, like it was completely okay and "just a normal toy". In my view, it isn't. Children shouldn't play war and shooting others. I can't understand why any parent would buy those, but they couldn't, if those "toys" weren't on sale. Do you think there is a point in complaining though?

  1. no - possessing guns as an adult is condoned so kids just want to inmitate adults.

  2. There are just too many issues with this question.  There was a point when my mom took away all our toys guns, so we just used sticks or our hands to play anyway.  I know you will hate to hear this, but Mankind is a violent race and this is reflected throughout our culture, both today and long ago.  Guns are a fact of life and ignoring them or pretending they will all go away some day is not going to be helpful.  If you don't want your children to play with them, I'd say to go ahead and buy them, but explain very carefully why they are wrong.  If your children don't play with them, then you have acomplished your goal and have been a parent.  Getting them banned will only make them the forbidden fruit.  Sorry if this wasn't what you wanted to hear, but it's only an opinion.

  3. Toy weapons have been around since time began.  Guns, swords, bows & arrows, light sabres, take your choice. Remember, they are toys and only become real in a child's imagination. Your imagination as a child is an amazing tool. What is needed though is for parents to educate their children on the difference between imagination and reality, and to instill a clear knowledge and understanding of what is socially right and wrong behaviour.

Good children come from good parents, children only learn from adults and their peers.

BTW if you want to ban toy weapons, would you also ban all movies showing violence? Did you laugh at Tom & Jerry as a kid and understand it wasn't real?  Violent movies with ultra-graphic scenes being banned or their viewing controlled by parents would probably be more useful to a growing mind than banning toys.

Guns don't kill people, it's the person behind the weapon with no respect for another human life who does the killing.
