  1. yes china is just about there

  2. it is very hard for a confederacy or loose organization of states to reach that level. It's possible, but not likely. Individual members, now we're talking. Don't laugh, tiny Holland was once a superpower!

  3. No. It could form common economic and/or military policy, but otherwise I cannot see it becoming a joint super power. I would venture to say that China will shine above the rest.

  4. just wait and see

  5. Yes, but many adjustments are needed in the economy, political and etc. of member states. Moreover, it will take a long time to happen.

  6. Not at this point no.

In fact, to be honest, it's not happening anytime soon. You have to remember that these are tiny states with little economic/political or other sorts of power on the int'l stage.

Singapore is currently the most "powerful" of the ASEAN states with it's economy that's tech based...or so is believed.

Plus (this is something of an urban legend, but) with China on the rise...she wants to exert influence on neighbooring countries. Most if not all of the ASEAN countries have huge and influential Chinese populations...to the point that the Chinese are viewed as such like the Jews in the America...

    ...controlling everything behind the scenes....

  7. in regards to what? Economically?  Yes. Militarily? No.
