  1. Mistake, possibly. Ultrasound isn't very high resolution though, so it is more likely to be ambiguous.

    This happened to me. A suspected cyst was recommended for diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. The ultrasound failed to resolve the cyst/tumor question, so a biopsy was performed to confirm status.


  2. There can be a mistake in almost anything.  No one here can make a judgment on something they have never seen.  Talk to the doctor.  There are probably other tests that can be done to support or refute the ultrasound.
