Due to the recent flooding of Cedar Rapids area, many farm crops are devastated. A posting on a forum I read said this is a total loss. Is it? The crops cannot be used for human comsumption but can it be used for ethanol, fuel or ANYTHING else? I'm a city slicker so I don't know much about farming but know enough to estimate this crop loss is on a massive scale. Thank you for your time and patience.

  1. The Best use for the devastated crops is to plow them into the soil for use as a natural fertilizer.

  2. No . The condition of the crops described is such that it MAY not be useful even for Ethanol production .

The only practical use is to plow it back in the field ; allow to rot or decompose completely and treat it as a Green manure ,

Or make a compost manure also called organic fertilizer .

In this way the organic matter will be reused .
