Is there a procedure to find out if a company in the UK is legitimate?

That is a name used by a well known scam.

They have offered you a job where people send you cheques, you pay them into your account and then send that money less a small commission to their "Head Office".  The only thing is the cheques will bounce and you will have to pay back the money you sent off.

You can find out if a company is registered at Companies House, or is it has been recently dissolved.
