I have seen the walking ropes that are made for daycares. But the child has to be old enough to hold onto the rope. Is there a product that attaches around the children to keep them together? I can't seem to find one on any of the daycare supply sites. I would appreciate any help anone could offer..

  1. Practice with the children holding the rope in an area where they are still safe if they run off.  If they are too young for you to trust that they will stay with you, do not take them out, you are responsible for their safety.  No child should be leashed like a dog.

  2. I agree with the others...it's a safety hazard.  How old are these children?  I've used the walking ropes with children as soon as young as 18 months.  They just need to be taught how to do it and expected to.

  3. Also an ECE teacher, and I am thinking that although it sounds like a good idea, many parents have issues with using these (myself included)...and would be really upset if they found out that their daycare center was using this method (cut off the parent frustration ahead of time).  Instead, this may be a good time to teach kids stop, look, and listen.  Try having the kids gently hold the back of one anothers shirts, when walking, or teaching discipline if they aren't listening.  (depending on ages for all these ideas)

  4. I'm thinking you're having a hard time finding one because it wouldn't be very safe.  If one child falls, they'll all fall, and if one tries to take off, they'll all either run or fall!
