  1. By the stem... even if red wine is room temperature, heat is the enemy of wine.  And why would you want sticky fingerprints on the glass anyway?

  2. Well, you don't hold it from the bottom of the glass part...

You hold it nice and relaxed around the glass cup part...

    It doesn't really matter..

  3. White wine should be held by the stem to keep your hands from warming it.

Red wine, depending on what kind (Amarone, Chianti), can sometimes be held by the bowl of the glass to actually warm it up, otherwise just hold it by the stem.

  4. Your supposed to hold a wineglass by the stem or the bottom...not by the glass itself otherwise the wine gets warm.

  5. You should generally hold all wine by the stem.  the statements about the white wine getting warm are true, however, the ones about red are somewhat inaccurat.  Red wine is not served warm it is served slightly cooler than room temp. but not chilled.  Even then, it depends on the type of red as to what temp. it is served.  This is just general info.  Another reason not to hold a wine glass by the bowl is beause of the unsightly fingerprints

  6. yes, for white wine (which is cold) you hold it by the stem to keep your body heat from warming it.  Red wine doesn't matter much because it's served warm.

  7. Just drink it right out of the bottle. Then you don't have to worry about it.

  8. right here

  9. When it comes to a wine glass, I do 1 of 2 things. If I am drinking white wine then I hold the glass by the stem part, reason because the heat from your fingers or hand will make the cold wine get warm faster and that is no good. If I am drinking red wine then I hold the glass with the stem placed between my ring finger and my pinky and use the rest of my hand to cup the goblet, hope that will make sense to you without a visual. I learned each way at a winery this past spring. I hope that this helps you....good luck

  10. Yes by the base, thumb above forefinger, like holding a tea saucer. They're made like that so the heat of the hand doesn't travel up to the wine.

  11. I like to angle mine between my lips.
