  1. Beatrix is the name of the current Dutch queen. Like the United Kingdom, the Netherlands is a constitutional monarchy. Queen Beatrix inherited the throne from her mother Queen Juliana, who abdicated in the early 1980s. (I have read it is not unusual for Dutch monarchs to abdicate because of age.)

To E.M. --- Her husband's name was spelled "Klaus". (He was of German origin and that's how they spell it over there.)

  2. Queen Beatrix is the present Queen of The Netherlands. They have not had a King since the death of King William III in 1890. Queen Beatrix is the third Queen in succession after her Mother, Juliana and her grandmother Wilhelmina. It is traditional in The Netherlands for monarchs to abdicate in favour of their children and both her predecessors did so, her mother on her 71st birthday and her Grandmother at the age of 68.

Queen Beatrix is 70 now but it has been suggested that she may not abdicate. Her heir is her son Willem-Alexander but his heir is his oldest daughter,

  4. Queen Beatrix I don't think there is a King.... her husband was prince Claus, but he passed away a while ago.

  5. Holland (moer properly, the Netherlands) has a queen, Beatrix, who is the daughter of QueenJuliana, who was the daughter of Queen Willemina, who came to the throne as a minor and during whose minority the regent was, guess who, her mother!  Alas, Queen Beatrix's heir is a man, but HIS heir is a little girl,
