I am going to the UK for a fun visit with friends. A friend is going to be in Amsterdam about 2 days before I leave London to come back home and he thought it would be a hoot to hook up for the day in Amsterdam. He saids the food is great there. But I want to see if its worth the one day cost. Can you recommend something?

  1. You can fly to Amsterdam from either London Luton Airport, London Gatwick Airport, or London Stansted Airport with Easy Jet for a less than £50, though that depends on what time of the year, and you can do it in a day...but...to make it worthwhile, you would have to be at whichever airport you decide to use pretty early in the morning and they aren't exactly in the middle of London...especially Gatwick, though there is transport available from London itself to the airports mentioned.  You would also have to get yourself from Schipol Airport into Amsterdam and back again for the return flight.

Take a look at the EasyJet site and then at the airports themselves and see if you think it's worth the cost.

You may also have to enquire as to whether or not you would need a visa to go to Amsterdam.  If you are from America you do not need a visa to come to the UK, but I don't know if it's the same for a trip for you to Holland (The Netherlands)

As I live further north, if I want to go to Amsterdam, I drive to Hull and get the night ferry with ensuite cabin, live entertainment, and arrive in Rotterdam the next morning where there is a coach standing by to take us straight into Amsterdam.  We spend the day in Amsterdam and get the coach back to the ferry around 5pm.  We have the same cabin for the return journey overnight, and arrive back in Hull around 8 in the morning...great fun!

We tend to go later in the year when it is half that price!
