Question:

Is there a "universal" DVD blank that I could burn movies onto that will work with most DVD players?

I can burn the DVD just fine on my system, it's viewing the movie that is the issue...sometimes it can be viewed on a DVD player and sometimes not (even when using the same player). With that in mind, it leads me to think it's my computer system (it's Vista...please refrain from complaints and yelling). All we want to be able to do is record home movies of our kids and burn them on DVD's for viewing, sharing and storing long term. Thanks for your help!!!!

  1. Hi ya

    I use DVD-R

Alot of players cant read DVD-RW and some, only some cant read DVD+R, most read -R, so use these and ensure you finalise the disc for to be read in a stand alone player.

    hope this helps.

  2. Yes. The most common media type is DVD-R. (Notice the "-", as there are other types such as DVD+R)

You also need a DVD burning program such as iDVD(Mac), or ROXIO(PC).

  3. DVD-R,

    main features:

    1. easy convert avi or other popular video formats(such as*.flv  *,mpg *.xvid *.divx  *.mp4 *.3gp *.mkv *.rm *.rmvb *.mov *.wmv *.ogm *.ts etc.) to dvd or ISO image file.

    2. support *.srt  *.sub *.ssa *.*** *.smi *.psb *.tex *.idx subtitles

    3. support dvd menu with background music, beautiful dvd menu(some dvd menu about Christmas)

    4. support download youtube and other video share website video, than burn it to dvd

    5. support photo slideshow to dvd, more than 300 kinds of effects.

    6. easy to use, only a few clicks,

you can find this program at this site:

  4. You have to buy media that are compatible with your burner.

After burning the DVD, the -R format has about a 90% probability of being read on +R devices, and +R format recordings have a little lower probability of being read on -R devices.

If your burner handles -R, then use that for widest compatibility.

Also, it helps to slow down the burn speed - if you have 4x media, set your burning program to record at 2x.
