Is there a reason that the U.S. is the only country to require public speaking courses?

what is the point? why only in America? is there a certain factor that United States has that other countries don't?

  1. Since when is public speaking a required course in U.S. schools? And in which school systems?

    It certainly wasn't when I was in school! When did this happen?  


  2. The US is very quickly becoming a 100% service oriented economy. We do not have industries and factories predominantly anymore. In a service industry your ability to speak effectively may mean the difference between food on the table and living on the streets. You should thank the school system for the only real-world relevant course you probably will ever take.
