Is there a reason why a tornado gets a certain name?

or do people just name tornados to name tornados?

  1. Tornadoes don't get names.  Hurricanes get names so they won't be confused.  If you have more than one hurricane in the ocean at the same time,  you have to have a name to call each one.


  2. tornadoes don't get names,but if your thinking of hurricanes, the World Meteorological Organization uses six lists in rotation. The same lists are reused every six years. The only time a new name is added is if a hurricane is very deadly or costly. Then the name is retired and a new name is chosen.

  6. As the people above me have stated, tornadoes get categories (F1 F2 F3 ...) but only hurricanes get names. I'm guessing because it's easier to keep track of and record the storm. If you're watching the news and they're talking about a hurricane coming for you, it's easier to say "Katrina is headed westbound", instead of Hurricane #13 of the year or the 14th hurricane of the year
