  1. Blu-ray is called such because of the laser used in reading the discs. It is actually blue. Blue has a shorter wavelength than that of the red laser used in DVD's and as a result can read data more precisely, thus enabling the data to take up a smaller area.

    They had to use Blu-ray instead of Blue-ray for legal reasons.
