My 7 year old son heard that he could make some money by recycling plastic... now we have 6 large trash bags full of bottles. And I don't know where to go!

  1. Yes

  2. Here in Tulsa we can recycle plastic (and please do!!!)  but we only receive money for soda cans.  It is probably the same there.  Call your city council ans ask.

  3. I think you waste more money on plastic bags

  4. Your son has ambitious goals being that young and into recycling.  Unfortunately Oklahoma is not a "Bottle Bill" or deposit state.  Those states charge some small amount of money per bottle when you buy them in the store and the "refund" it back to you when the containers are recycled.

In order to get paid for plastic bottles, you usually need truck load quantities of material (several hundred thousand bottles...you may need an addition on your house!) in order to sell them.

Depending on how ambitious he is, you may be able to use that as an alternative to allowance and pay him a penny/bottle or some amount when he recycles.  I think your best bet is place them in your curbside recycling program (if you have one) or check out www.earth911.org and locate a recycling center near you.

    Hope this helps!
