Is there a relationship between family life and delinquency?

Is there a connection between family life and child delinquency or is it just a part of today's culture? is a child brought up to be a criminal or is it just an individual choice?

The answer is not so black and white. It all depends on the upbringing, the childs' surroundings and family, genes,etc. For example, an abused child can very likely grow up and become an abuser. Then again, a child can grow up, learn from his/her experiences, and become a loving, attentive parent. There are way too many variances.
