No, he will be missed, but he wanted out, he wasn't sent out by the fans or ownership.  Boston got the best out of Manny for 8 good years and now both the city and Manny himself have moved on.  

Jason Bay is a great ballplayer and I think he will fit in perfectly in Boston.  And everyone will love Big Papi that much more now that he is the only real "Power Slugger" on the team.

He left on a very sour note.  I feel as though he needed to go for the sake of the team.  He was bringing the clubhouse down and  they have been playing awful.  Remember in 2004 when Nomar left and the team went on a tear and won the World Series?  I feel as though it is the same sort of situation here.  Manny was miserable and was bringing the team down.

Im from Massachusetts and at first i felt a little remorse then Manny left, but after a bit I realized that the deal made a lot of sense for the Sox because Bay is 7 years younger and actually knows how to play left field.

Smart Red Sox fans aren't mad at all. We just picked up Bay, and younger guy who is almost the hitter Manny has been this year. Sure, in his prime, Manny was much much better, but besides Bay having a batting average .018 lower than Manny, they're about tied in the stats category. Bay is also a better fielder and base runner. (He actually RUNS the bases) And he is willing to work hard for the team. He will fit right in with the other players now that everyone has the same work ethic, making him a great replacement for Manny, who had no work ethic at all.  Even if Bay is a step down at the bat, the team will carry farther with him because he will not be sabotaging the team's success, but instead adding to the team's chemistry. I guarantee he'll become friends with guys like Pedroia, Youk, Drew, Varitek, etc within the next week, because he has the same hard-working vibe as them.

Red Sox fans turn on their players immediately when they leave Boston.  One day they are their heroes, the next day they despise them.  Remember Damon?  Women in MA swooned over him; men wanted to be him; they ALL worshipped him as their hero... and as soon as he left they pretended like they had never liked him, and that they were better off without him.  They forgot that he was a huge part of their World Series win, and started making fun of him, saying he threw "like a girl."  

Point is, Boston fans are incredibly fickle.  Those who were saying Boston would never trade Manny because they needed him too much are suddenly acting like this trade was their idea.
