Is there a rough multiplier I can use to update an old building estimate?

I've got a building estimate from 1995 which says a building, which was designed back then, would cost approx. £135k.

What I'm trying to do is guestimate the current cost of this building based on 13 years of inflation, etc.

I did remember someone saying that prices double every 10 years but is this realistic? Does approx. £310k sound reasonable?

  1. not necessarily as the cost of materials fluctuate and the building itself might not meet the current building regs for health, safety and the environment

  2. Can't base it on anything, but I sort of *feel* that's about right.
