I'm asking this question because once i break my 19hh draft i would like to show him in jumping. It would be low jumps but he keeps jumping out of his pen. His pen is 4' high and he always clears it. Is there a rule that says that you can not show a draft horse in a jumping class? I have his papers and his negitives so when I'm done training him and if he likes the jumping can i show him?

  1. There is absolutely no reason why you can not take him to local shows. You can compete in novice jumping and possibly intermediate. Good luck.

  2. a horse is a horse, go for it!

  3. If he can jump I say let him jump! The local shows I participate in have no rule against it (although not many people bring their Drafts) but I have been consideing bringing my Belgian Draft to the shows to jump because she too loves to jump.

Check with the sponsor, but I say go for it!

  4. no, there are no rules saying that you can only show certain breeds. and btw, you should not have a 4 foot fence to hold in a 19hh horse!

  5. There is not a rule against showing draft horses in jumping. Its just not as common of a breed for it, although a very good friend of mine shows her draft in jumping and does fairly well with it. You will need to check on height rules and regulations and some shows are breed specific, so do make sure you ask. But for a local show my guess is no, just check height regulations.

  6. jump away.  I've a friend with a frisian and one with a shire.  Both have been known to indulge in a bit of jumping at shows.  Just to make people watch  Granth ( the shire) basically steps over the 2'6 and 3' levels.  He wont bother to put effort into anything until 4 feet

  7. No i've never heard of a rule about drafts at local shows because local shows are pretty lax about there rules most of the time. That sounds like an awesome horse it must be so cool having him be that large and be able to jump. I sure would be blown away if i were watching! GOOD LUCK! and enjoy your jumping career.

  8. No, i haven't heard of a rule about this. At all the shows i've jumped in, theres been no rules about the breed of horse, only about height- (14''2 and over only,14''2 and under only etc". But if you are unsure i'd ring the show organisers to check, so you don't end up with a wasted trip :)

  9. Nope there are no rules! Go and show him, I am sure you guys will blow everyone away!

  10. Local shows are typically governed by the rules of whatever organization is sponsoring the show.

In the absence of a sanctioning body, it's pretty much at the whim of whoever is in charge.

Check with your local venue to see who you'd need to contact to find out for sure.
