  1. baby wipes.

  2. NOOO!, you should never give a hamster a bath. It takes the essential oils out of their skin. The stress of a bath may cause wettail. If you want to get the nonessential oils off their skin, you should get something like chinchila sand, never dust, they will inhale it. If you want your hamster to smell less, change the bedding more often, hamsters are very clean animals, they groom themseves for like 45% of the time they are awake, so it is not them that smells it is their cage. Only give a hamster a bath if he/she gets some thing toxic on him/her. Just dampen a warmish cloth and wipe them down. Pat them dry until dry, orelse they may get cold.

  3. Some people are mis-informed and think that hamsters get wet tail just by getting wet. That is not true. It is caused by stress and being bathed can cause that.

You should never have to bathe a hamster. Hamsters clean themselves well and do not need help with it. Even if you did, it would not be healthy for them.

If you want your hamster's coat to look cleaner or shinier, you can buy chinchilla SAND (not dust!) and put it in a shallow bowl for your hamster to use.

  4. Bathing removes natural and essential oils from the hamster’s coat, which can cause the hamster to catch a chill and die.

Bathing should only be done in exceptional circumstances, like if your hamster has paint, varnish or anything toxic on its coat that may harm it if it licks itself or ingests it. The hamster will clean itself if it is dirty and the substance is not toxic. There are NO safe ways to do it. Go to the link below for more info.

  5. Hamsters Clean Themselves. :)

  6. Bathing is not related to wet tail. Wet tail is just a name for diarreah which is caused by dehydration or stress. And yes, stress can be caused by something scary like bathing!

That said, there is no reason to bathe a hamster. They spend as much time cleaning themselves as cats do. They are clean on their own, and don't need any help.

If however it is dirty with something, simply dampen a paper towel with warm water, and whipe the dirt off him. No need for baby whipes even. Just cloth and water.

As I said, bathing can be stressful to a hamster, and also adds the chance of it drowning if it gets too jumpy and you lose control of it.
