Is there a safe way to download music for free

i really dont want my new computer to get a virus. i heard limewire can harm your computer. is there a different way to get music for free without the risk?

If it's totally free, its probably not safe.  I guess it depends on your definition of 'safe'.  Depending on the software you have installed on your computer it could damage files, but not everyone experiences these problems.  And there's also the chance of getting caught. The absolute safest way to protect your computer and yourself is either:

a) join a service where you pay a flat fee once a month like napster

or

b) Join walmart.com's music.  The songs are 88 cents and you have to convert the files but if it's worth saving the money then go ahead.

And hey, there's always itunes.

i have limewire it is completely safe. but to make sure when u r downloading songs make sure they r 2000kb and over. i'm telling u limewire is the best

Lime Wire is safe I have had it for over 3 Years and not once has it harmed my computer. Ares is also a good program it is basically the same as lime wire but i heard it is easier for the cops to catch it? I think you should just go with lime wire. Safe and easy to use!

uhh...well..honestly everything is dangerous. As long as you use...a good anti-virus program you should be set.

alright that's a good question cause i ****** up my computer when i first got it by getting limewire, this was a couple years ago though. now limewire is spyware and adware free which means you don't have to worry about getting any viruses or harming your computer. if you are still not sure about limewire, go to frostwire, same as limewire but no viruses as well, i've created a p2p network

Torrents.  Look up uTorrent.com.  Downloadable software that does the downloading after you've searched for the torrents yourself.

If you're looking for, say, Ozzy Osbourne, then use your normal search engine and type "ozzy Osbourne torrent".  Several sites will appear that have Ozzy (or whomever) ready to download from other people, like on Limewire, but safer because most sites have spots where other ppl who have that particular download can tell you if it is what it says it is, if it has viruses/trojans, and how many people you can download from.  The more seeders, the better.  (Seeders = Ppl who have the entire file to download;  Leechers = Ppl who only have parts of the file)  Btw, you can download single songs, whole cds, or entire discographies at once...
