Is there a safe way to trim a yucca plant?

we bought a house with a grown up garden including about 6 yucca plants, i wanted to trim them up but wondered if there are any secrets to containing the good leaves so they dont poke an eye out or cause lots of bleeding!

  1. wear safety goggles. you can get them at any hardware store


  2. You'd have to cut off the entire leaf as the inner leaf is full of fluids.  Cutting that open is exposing the important part of the yucca to diseases and pests.

    The only other way would be to clip the needles in a blunt fashion.  But once again, if you cut into the leaf the leaf will die.

  3. The only thing I have ever done is cut down the flower stalk and snip off the sharp tips with kitchen shears.

  4. After having suffered a yucca for years on the farm, I reccomend using a chain saw to get rid of it completely

  5. Go to a homemade wine shop and buy a bag of corks and stick one on each spike. You don't have to cut anything, your children will be safe and it's a good talking point.
