Is there a scientific explanation for why the sky is blue?

This might seem like a dumb question, but there has to be some kind of science behind it.

  6. In case you just don't want to read, the short answer is Blue is the highest frequency of light that can make it through the atmosphere and still easily be seen.

    Think of it this way: The sky is a giant prism. Blue makes it the farthest after being shot through a prism. Red the shortest distance. That's why when you SCUBA dive after 30ft. you lose red from the spectrum.

    The molecules in our atmosphere break and bend light (technical term: refract) in an effect called "Rayleigh Scattering."

  9. blue is the the color in the rainbow that comes out the most when the sun is shining throw it. Its wavelenght is the lowest, so you see it.

  10. It isn't because it reflects off of the ocean (the ocean reflects off of the sky).  Blue is the slowest colour in light (the light is made of all the colours in the rainbow and they each have their own speed).  Also the light bends a little.
