  1. Well there is no secret. With the right combination of club speed and the right type of club for you along with the right type of ball you might be able to hit it occassionally 300 yards. But remember Drive for Show...Putt for dough!!! If you work out and build up some leg muscle and forearms it will help also. Enjoy the Game!!!!

  2. Not really. Of course a wide arc as pointed out is pretty d**n important. Using tour quality balls is also very beneficial because they are the reason for the increased distance these days, it has nothing to do with clubs. I mentioned this anecdote in another question but here it is again: Geoff Ogilvy hit a 1970's wooden persimmon driver owned by former tour player Bob Shearer only 10-15 yards shorter than his Titanium King Cobra for TV when he was out playing here in Australia a few years ago. Not much difference for a guy who hits 'em long is it??

  3. No secrets at all. It's all math. as the first answerer said, you must swing in the area of 100mph plus roll and about 110 carry.Swing speed. that's the key.

  4. Timing, weight training, and TALENT!

  5. lower degree launch angle, and a lower ball spin number

  6. Yes there is a secret. a long straight drive. between 11-13* of launch, a swing around 100mph or higher solid contact, and a good roll. These can be achieved at any time by any golfer. As long as your body permits it. I would say though that if you can play at 260-270, you will be just fine.

  7. It comes with strengh and height. Height is uncontrollable, obviously. So, do what you have to do to make yourself stronger and increase your swing speed. With your swing, the power boost only matters in the downswing. Your upswing can be as fast or as slow as you want, as long as it's in control. Make sure too tee it up as high as you need to as well.

In the end though, keep it accurate. It's one thing to be able to hit it 300, but it's another to go 300 down the fairway with consistency. I drive it less than that (250ish), but I still have a 10 handicap because of my short game.

  8. No

  9. No secret.

You need a swing speed of more than 100 mph and square contact. You also probably need a launch angle of 12-13 for the carry and less than 3000 rpms on the ball spin rate.

There are some guys like Charles Howell 3 that are are 5’10” and barely 160 lbs who do it because they get the swing speed and get a lot of roll and get such pure contact with the ball. I’ve read that the variance of where they hit the ball on the club face is as big as a dime.

If you mean a 300 yard CARRY, then very few people do that…

  10. Use a driver.

  11. Solid contact, square on the face of the driver with a combination of club head speed, trajectory and a low spin rate.

I have played with lower handicap people who hit every drive short, but every once in the while they hit one square and out drive me.  Sure is a topic of bragging rights.  They already have a decent short game, so if they developed some consistency in their driving I am in trouble.

A 20 mph wind at your back and downhill sloping fairway doesn't hurt either.

  12. Yes, call yourself Tiger Woods.

  13. .Bulk up the body, develop a wide body turn, approach a swing speed of 130mph, take a stable stance and whack the back of the ball with the latest technology in drivers. If your swing is grooved the ball will go 300 yards. Also use the better golf ball  which gives you the higher trajectory.

  14. Physics, physics, physics...

    Force equals Mass times Acelleration....

You can't really change the Mass of the driver, but you can increase it's speed.....Getting the club head as far away from your "line of rotation" is a good way....and moving your hands thru the impact zone quickly helps too.....You will need to be generating a 3 digit club speed (>100 mph) and have a shaft designated for this speed.......

RELAX...muscleing the ball will not speed things up....

You would like to hit a slight draw. This is a over-top spin, hence it will hit the fairway and run down the middle....If you hit a bit of a fade, this is a back spin, hence the ball will hit the fairway and exit stage right.  Ideally you would like your hands and club head to be in the exact spot that they are when you address the ball...concentrate on that...Finish your swing...similar to how you hit line drives in baseball....you need to role your hands a bit inorder the close the head up at impact, especially if you are hitting fades....

And the best advice I learned was from Mr BOOM BOOM himself (his book)...One : slow backswing..it has to stop at the top anyway so why go so fast....Two: as you start your swing downward, at about 2 o'clock litterally let the club fall. If you put the club in the same spot everytime and let it fall, it will fall to the same place everytime.  Then at about 4 oclock, pull like h**l with your left hand bringing your right along for the ride and rolling your right couter-clockwise in order to close the face up.....

You will hear the wind at the bottom of your swing if you are generating 100+ speed.....

A golf swing has to be a natural thing....a  mechanical swing is no good...you can't repeat them over and over again....if you develop a natural swing, you will get the consistancy you need to shoot low scores.....

However...there is a lot of truth to the saying "Drive for Show" and putt for the dough"...Although hitting 300 yrd drives is really cool and fun to do....really how many times does the shot off the tee warrent a 300 yrd drive......for instatnce a typ 420 yrd par four...BANG a 300 yrd drive and have to finece a 120 wedge into the green with an attack wedge.....The better way is to back off a bit on the tee....Bang a 250 yrd shot to the MIDDLE, and hit a nice FULL 7 or 8 iron 170 yrds in...NO FINECE !

  15. There is no real secret, head-speed is the name of the game.

Professional Tour golfers have great timing and  their head speed is regularly in excess of  100 mph, that is why they hit long golf shots off the tee.

  16. there isno secret.  all you have to do is just swing it right and hit the ball.
