  1. Legally no.

  2. Not really. You can't legally go below 16" and most barrels are permanently pinned to the trunnion and thus the receiver. It's not a 'removable' item per say.

  3. You can dress it up with all kinds of sights, furniture and goodies but a barrel shorter than 16" would be a violation of the National Firearms Act. It would have had to been previously registered as a SBR. Short Barrel Rifle on the whole Form 4 deal with the $200 tax.

To me an SBR is not worth the trouble. Plus the rifle's performance suffers from lower velocity and usually worse accuracy.

  4. The AK-104 and AK-105 both have 12.5" barrels, the difference between them is the caliber, the 104 is 7.62x39 and the 105 is 5.45x39.

    The AKS-74U in 5.45x39 has a 7.5" barrel.

Parts kits are available for these guns and they are available in semi-auto form as a registered short barrel rifle.  Arsenal sells versions with the barrel left long but ready to be shortened after receiving ATF approval.

  5. What the heck are you doing with an AK-47???? Are those even legal for civilians to own????
