Is there a significance for the 04 on the back of Michael Phelps Jersey Tees?

I noticed the shirts made by Speedo had different numbers as Lochte's shirt has an 01 and Coughlin's is an 05. Just wondering if the numbers were random or they had a meaning behind them.

Those are the team jersey numbers.  You can buy the name /number combo of Speedo clothing.

Of course for Phelps, it may also be a reminder of how close he came in ’04 to doing what he did this year.
