I have noted sites that allow you to track airline traffic in real time. Does anyone know of a similar site(s) for passenger/freight trains?

  1. While I know of no system to track freight, there is one for passengers (link below). It has been ingeniously adapted using Google maps and shows realtime progress of the electric units of Dublin, Ireland's DART system.

If you're coming to check whether it is accurate, have a look at my Dublin Rail enthusiasts site beforehand:

  2. not to sure ..... but i do know csx uses a system to track us in real time but i think only the customers get to use it ..

  3. Good question, but I don't have an answer for you. I'm just marking this question to see if there is one.

  4. I don't think so.  Why would anyone want to know?  In airlines there are flight controllers and passengers, on freight trains there are neither of these.

  5. The carriers can locate equipment using their own system, searching by car/locomotive number, but it is not accessable to the public, as well it should be.

Progress of trains that are out and running can be seen by the dispatchers in real time.
