  1. Yes, there is a certain kind of skill involved in doing jigsaw puzzles.  It is called "visual spatial skills".  Good organizational skills also help, as well as persistence and patience.  Good attention skills of many kinds help, including attention to visual details.  If you are a person who prefers auditory things, jigsaw puzzles might be a little harder for you than for some other people.

You will get better with practice.  Pick out all the pieces that form the border and put them together first.

Identify unusual shapes and colors in the puzzle and put those sections together.  Then look for unusual pieces that might connect to what  you have already done.

Organize the pieces that are left, and group them where you think they might go in the puzzle.

Most important of all, have fun with it.  That's what jigsaw puzzles are about.

  2. first do the edges and look for colors that match the border.

  3. First get all the edge pieces and put them together. Then find all the bits that are similar colours and group them so that if you're looking for a blue piece, then you have a whole bunch of blue pieces to choose from, if you're looking for a red piece, then you have all the red pieces in one place.

  4. the jigsaws are mentally challenging games....need alot of focus, concentration and patience....just gather all those ends and start sticking them together to start....look at the picture and see what it looks like....get the colours sorted out and start by fixing the few parts you are sure about.....it takes awhile but youll get the hang of it after some time...its fun you can even do it with a friend to make it less complicated.....the more the merrier and to brains is always better than one.....so good luck and have fun doing your jigsaw......

  5. I sort the pieces out and then I make the outside and i also find the 4 edges first.

  6. You can also look for certain distinguishing items that only appear once in the puzzle... if, for example, there's a horse in the puzzle, and you find a piece with half of a horse on it, you'll know right away what piece goes with the one you have.

Also, if the puzzle has words in it (e.g.  a street scene with buildings that have signs on them), that can help you piece certain things together.    Other things like vehicles, or groups of people, can be put together too.

And, of course, you'll find that once you put groups of pieces together (starting with the edge of the puzzle, of course), you'll have fewer pieces to search through to find the OTHER parts of the puzzle).
