Is there a social theory which states being a victim in some way is empowering?

  1. No! Being a victim is never empowering. It can be used by the poor me people as a way to get sympathy but this is self sabotage at its worst,

    Every human on the planet has the ability to control their thoughts and their direction in life. Empowering thoughts and actions lead to greater power over self and circumstances. Being a victim on the other hand means your power is used by others usually to your detriment.

  2. I would seriously doubt it.

    There may be a spiritual benefit - but even then, only under certain conditions - in that it could, conceivably resolve some of one's OWN bad karma while loading MORE of it onto the perpetrator.

    However, spiritual considerations like that generally DON'T show up in "social theory".
