I use my lunch hour & breaks to pay bills, e-mail, etc. I recently found out that my companies IT guy who happens to be a colleague of mine just purchase a very expensive software to track everyone's internet activity & it will allow him to view the web page.

I completely agree with the monitoring but at what point does it does it go too far? I don't want this guy to know how much I make or my personal life.

  1. I hope not, that is an extreme invasion of privacy.

  2. The IT guy I was working with in 2004 said the company had purchased a software that could read your keystrokes.

I just googled for that type of software and it pretty much captures on screen everything.

  3. All that kind of software will do is tell him what websites you have visited on your company computer. It will not give away credit card info or anything else like that. If it does you can sue for violation of privacy. Most of those things when it says you can view the web page it means you can view the basic webpage so they know what kind of site it is rather than personal pages. They wont be able to view your email inbox. Dont worry!

  4. i know that in my school we are tracked but i wud hope that they cant see your actual passwords...i think its used more to see what your doing while at work...so ur not slacking

  5. The computers belong to the company...and they pay for the internet access and electricity to run the computers.  They have a right to protect their equipment and to make sure employees aren't wasting time surfing the 'net or downloading p**n or viruses when they should be working.  Having said that...any good IT person could recover your passwords if they really wanted to - they wouldn't need an expensive software program that captures your screen images.  Just keep the personal use of your internet privileges to a minimum and you won't have anything to worry about, and nosy technicians won't have anything to spy on you about.

  6. Usually software like this only tracks what pages or sites you are visiting. If it is a place where you have to login, i am pretty sure the login page is as far as it will go. They basically want to make sure who does what and make sure there is no one looking at pornographic material or surfing while on the clock.
