Most are too sweet to make mac and soy cheese or mashed potatoes and leave the savory foods with a bit too sweet of a taste in them.

  1. I am wondering if while buying the 'plain' - you still aren't getting the soy/rice milk that is sweetened.

I too used to think that it was 'too sweet' - till I actually took the time to read the packages - and found out that 'plain' actually is sweetened.  They DO sell 'unsweetened' which I believe is what your looking for - but you have to check the package really good to make sure.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Never get vanilla/very vanilla, and dont get SoGood soymilk, it is a little sweet even for plain. I like sensational soy organic soymilk or you could get Silk.

  3. I have heard stories of people who buy vanilla soy milk or rice milk and cook savory foods with it.  Make sure you don't do that.

For cooking and baking, get unsweetened soy milk.  I get the Whole Foods brand because it's fairly inexpensive.

  4. I agree with hellinore_rigby, rice dream is good for cooking and general consumption, it's not too thick and the taste is fairly mild. If you want to use soy milk in cooking, try opting for an unsweetened version of your favorite brand. The flavors in regular soy milk may come out in the food.

  5. Get the plain instead of vanilla.

  6. Try unsweetened, that is recommended for cooking with, although it has the most HORRIBLE taste for drinking alone or with cereal.

  7. I don't think that (plain) Rice Dream rice milk is too sweet.

It's similar to a cow's skim milk in color and consistency. I've never had a problem when cooking with it.

    good luck!
